ADJUDICATOR: Samantha Penny – BMus Hons BCom Acc GCMT MMTA
Samantha Penny is an award-winning woodwind and string teacher. She is a certified Bigger Better Brains Facilitator, and is an active advocate for music education for all.
Working in Adelaide in schools, Sam directs numerous ensembles including both award-winning Emmaus Christian College Chamber Ensembles. In 2021 she founded Fusion Strings at Westminster School, giving students access to eclectic music that they would not ordinarily encounter on their instruments. She also teaches in string and wind immersion programmes.
Sam is the Treasurer of the Music Teachers’ Association of South Australia. She is an active councillor, involved in planning professional learning and networking events for South Australian music teachers. Sam founded Art Design By Sam in 2017, creating useful and inspiring music teaching resources. Her music diaries are particularly popular amongst students.
Sam is a regular performer in the Adelaide Music Scene with the Glenhuntly Quartet and frequents the Adelaide Fringe Festival with Fusion Pops Orchestra. She was proud to perform on the bassoon for the Australian Premier of The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace by Karl Jenkins in 2022, a joint project with McLaren Vale Big Sing, Elder Conservatorium and Special Interest Music Schools under the baton of Carl Crossin.
Music is a driving passion in Sam’s life, which she shares with her husband Alex, a music teacher, and their three children.

Ensembles consist of 4-9 instruments only. An interchange of 2 members is allowed as long as there are no more than 9 on stage at any one time.

Instrumental Ensemble Sections Start times
Depending on number of entries, some SECTIONS may be divided, combined, cancelled or have entries CLOSED EARLY when capacity is reached
1.00 pm – Intermediate Instrumental Ensemble – Year 10 & under
2.10 pm – Senior Instrumental Ensemble – Year 12 & under
(None in 2024 – Junior Instrumental Ensemble – Year 6 & under)
