Friday 2nd August, 2024
VENUE – All sections will be held at Horizon Centre – See Eisteddfod Venues page
CONVENOR: Kathy Niejalke
ADJUDICATOR: Darryl Pope OAM
Darryl has taught in South Australian schools across the government sector and several independent schools over the last 4 decades. He commenced his music studies as a child and has played brass instruments (principally trumpet and trombone) in a wide ranging list of ensembles and styles incorporating classical, music theatre, brass bands, concert bands, brass quintets, Jazz Big Bands as well as rock bands and jazz bands. He has a love for many styles of music – as long as it is played well!
He served as the Chief Assessor for Music Performance for the SACE Board for approximately 14 years.
Darryl was the founding president of the Australian Band and Orchestra Directors Association in South Australia and led this organisation for almost 20years. In this time the SA School Band and Orchestra Festival was developed and established and now is a prominent fixture in many schools’ calendars in Term 3 every year.
Darryl was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia in 2020 for contributions to Music Education.
He still plays in a range of ensembles and conducts a community orchestra in his retirement from teaching.
