Jonathon (BA, Grad Dip Ed, MBA) was educated here in South Australia at the Woodville High School Special Music Program as a trumpeter, and then studied music performance at the South Australian College of Advanced Education in the early 1980s where he was heavily influenced by his mentor, celebrated educator and conductor, Bob Hower.

Jonathon started his teaching career in Queensland before completing his Graduate Diploma in Education. After several years teaching in the Mid-North, including here at Balaklava, then 7 years in Special Education, he moved into the Catholic then independent school systems in both Victoria as Director of Music at Ballarat and Clarendon College and then Head of Music at St Aloysius College in Adelaide.

Jonathon continued his education by completing his master’s in business administration (MBA) in 2015 and since 2016, he has been in various roles with Pulteney Grammar School where he is currently the Head of Performing Arts.

In 2021, Jonathon was awarded the ASME SA Music Teacher of the Year Award, and last year Pulteney Grammar was awarded the Australian Performing Arts Teachers Association (APATA) Australian Performing Arts School of the Year Award.

Jonathon is passionate about performing arts education and developing programs that engage young people with music, drama or dance, so these students can find their tribe and explore all the amazing opportunities the performing arts offers young people in our 21st century world.

Bands consist of 10 or more members


Band Sections Start times

9.00am – Senior Stage Band

12.20pm – Senior Concert Band

2.40pm – Open Band (concert or stage)
