Instrumental Ensemble (4-9 Instruments)

* Please note this is NOT a band discipline. Instrumental Ensembles may be classical or non-classical.

* More than two entries per school are allowed in this discipline, providing the total number of Friday entries does not exceed FIVE per school.

Josie graduated from the University of Adelaide with an Honours Degree in Performance Bassoon and a Diploma of Education. She also has a Graduate Diploma in Performance from Griffith University. Josie has had a wealth of orchestral experience, working in many Festival Centre productions of musicals along with many years of casual playing with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and the Adelaide Art Orchestra.

Although Josie has been active in the musical education of young players – teacher of bassoon for the Education Department for 24 years, Administrator of State Music Camp for fifteen years, and classroom music teacher at Marryatville High School for 20 years – she now enjoys teaching players of a more mature age, both as a bassoon teacher and Musical Director of the Second-Wind Ensemble.

Josie is the editor of Reeding Matter, the journal of the Australasian Double Reed Society, and is a member of the local committee, organising events and actively promoting the playing of double reed instruments. In 2018 Josie was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for her services to the community through music.

Ensembles consist of 4-9 instruments only. An interchange of 2 members is allowed as long as there are no more than 9 on stage at any one time.

Instrumental Ensemble Sections

Depending on number of entries, some SECTIONS may be divided, combined, cancelled or have entries CLOSED EARLY when capacity is reached

(Junior Instrumental Ensemble – Year 6 & under – none in 2025)

9.10am – Senior ‘A’ Instrumental Ensemble – Year 12 & under

11.10am – Senior ‘B’ Instrumental Ensemble – Year 12 & under

12.20pm – Intermediate Instrumental Ensemble – Year 10 & under

ANNOUNCE INSTRUMENTAL ENSEMBLE CHAMPION and

AUSTA AWARD FOR MOST OUTSTANDING STRING ENSEMBLE (if applicable)
