VOCAL ENSEMBLE
(4-9 Voices)

Friday 4th August 2017

VENUE: BALAKLAVA CHURCH OF CHRIST

Balaklava Churches of Christ

1 Baker Street, Balaklava

ADJUDICATOR: DEB HEPWORTH

Deb Hepworth, M.Ed, B.Ed, Dip T (Prim) currently works with the National Music Teacher Mentor Program as the State Coordinator and the Public Primary Schools Music Festival as the Development Officer.  Prior to this, she was the Director of Music of the Festival for 11 years.

Her earliest musical memory is singing her heart out in the front row of the Brighton Primary School Junior Choir, then going home and trying to play her favourite songs on the piano. Her basic musicianship was developed by singing for 10 years in her church choir … Thursday night rehearsals and twice on Sundays and maybe a wedding or two on Saturdays slotted around Netball.

Deb began her teaching life as a general classroom teacher. After winning a Hungarian Government Scholarship to study at the Liszt Academy in Budapest, music education became her passion. She taught Music from Reception – Yr. 10 in both State and Private Schools here and in Victoria and is the only person to have conducted the Catholic, Independent and State Schools’ primary years Music Festivals in South Australia.

Deb was also a tutor with the Australian Girls Choir, having previously held the position of State and National Music Coordinator.

Supporting thousands of students on their musical journey, inspiring the love of massed singing, and working with truly dedicated teachers has been, for her, a privilege and a joy.

CONVENOR: SALLY COWAN
